1. Overview

Thrust ball bearing is a separate bearing with a contact angle of 90°. It consists of an inner ring, an outer ring, and a retainer. Single-row thrust ball bearings are designed to carry axial loads from a single direction, while two-row thrust ball bearings can accommodate axial loads from both directions. Bearings with spherical rings offer self-aligning performance to eliminate installation errors.

These bearings are separable, meaning the shaft washer, housing washer, and ball-and-cage assembly can be mounted independently. The shaft washers feature a ground bore for interference fit, while the housing washer bore is larger to facilitate proper assembly.

2. Structure & Cage

Available in single-row and double-row configurations. The single direction thrust ball bearings consist of two flat washers with raceways. Standard units typically use pressed steel cages for standard applications, while larger sizes utilize robust massive brass cages for enhanced durability in demanding environments.

3. Key Features

Designed specifically to accommodate large axial loads, these bearings must not be subjected to radial loads. They require a specific minimum axial load during operation to function correctly. They can be combined with spherical seating rings to compensate for initial technical misalignments.
